Fillings

Cavities are easiest to repair when caught early.  A simple filling may be all that is needed to save a tooth

Fillings

Cavities are easiest to repair when caught early.  A simple filling may be all that is needed to save a tooth

Otherwise know as a dental filling, operative dentistry is the term used for the removal of decay and the rebuild that restores form and function to the tooth. The dentists at CrossKeys dental in Fairport use current anesthetic and restorative techniques to help keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. There are many types of materials that are used as fillings. Our office most often provides the most esthetic of tooth colored resins. All of the materials that we utilize have been rigorously tested for strength, quality and safety. We're happy to explain the differences at your next visit.

CrossKeys Dental also provides onlay and inlay procedures for instances when a standard filling may not suffice, but a full crown may be excessive. These are lab-fabricated pieces, which can be tooth-colored, that are permanently cemented in place to offer superior strength.

We also provide dental sealants. These a proven to prevent decay by providing a coating to the chewing surface of back teeth (most often molars). A resin material is painted on and hardened into the pits in grooves that are most vulnerable to decay. This helps to prevent plaque trapping which can lead to cavities

Crowns, Bridges and Implant Restorative

Severe tooth decay or damage may require a crown or replacement with an implant

Crowns, Bridges and Implant Restorative

Severe tooth decay or damage may require a crown or replacement with an implant

Often the decay or trauma that affects a tooth is too great to be repaired by a simple restoration. These teeth may require replacement. There are many options, and depending upon the situation, we are here to inform you and help you decide what is best for your circumstances.

A crown, often referred to as cap, is a restoration that covers the tooth to provide more support and return the tooth to a normal size and shape. They are often indicated when a tooth has been severely decayed, damaged or has required root canal therapy. When a tooth missing, the surrounding teeth can be crowned with a center piece taking the place of the missing tooth or teeth. This is called a bridge.

CrossKeys also restores dental implants.  Implants are placed into your jaw bone to act as a replacement for a missing tooth's root. Our network includes specialists that will place your implant, and after a period of healing, called osseointergration, our doctors will deliver a crown to complete the process of replacing your missing tooth.

Dentures

Dentures

A cost-effective way to restore form and function when multiple teeth are missing

When multiple teeth are missing, a cost effective and esthetic option may be a denture. The Dentists at CrossKeys Dental in Fairport provides both complete and partial dentures. These are removable appliances meant to help restore the form and function of a full complement of teeth. Our doctors will help you understand the process involved to make your dentures as comfortable and functional as possible for a long period of time.

We offer several options:
Conventional dentures: Fabrication of these types of dentures are started only once tissues have healed after the extraction of teeth. The process may take several months, however it is the best way to provide a stable, well-fitting denture.

  • Immediate dentures: Sometimes it is reasonable to deliver the denture on the same day as some teeth are extracted. This means never having to go without teeth, but the subsequent healing process means that the fit of the denture will change over the following months. We recommend a new denture after the healing process or a relining of the original immediate denture.

  • Overdentures: The presence of teeth helps to preserve jaw bone, and sometimes, after preparation by our doctors, teeth can be used to support your denture. Today dental implants are often placed to perform the same role.

Root Canal Therapy

A toothache can be a true dental emergency

Root Canal Therapy

A toothache can be a true dental emergency

Your teeth are made of three layers: Enamel, the hard outer layer, dentin, the second layer, and the pulp, which is the soft center of the tooth. The pulp contains the nerves and blood vessels that nourish your teeth through development. Insult to the pulp can include traumatic injury, like a broken or avulsed tooth,  repeated dental procedures or a cavity that has made its way into these vital tissues. When this happens a root canal is often indicated.

What exactly is a root canal? Referred to as endodontic therapy, it is the process that involves the removal of damaged or inflamed pulpal tissues and the placement of specific materials to seal the tooth against further infection. This procedure is also often required when a dental infection has spread into bone and other surrounding tissues.

Why consider a root canal? Sometimes they are necessary when attempting to save a tooth. Keeping your own tooth means having the potential to maintain natural appearance, biting force and chewing sensation. Plus, today's modern anesthetics, rotary instrumentation, materials and digital X-ray equipment have made the negative connotations of a root canal a thing of the past.  Your comfort is a central focus of our practice, and that includes root canal procedures!
